NOT TOYS × DOLLS&DONS

Mohamed Fares

Nowadays we swipe for the instant gratification we receive from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, but growing up, a substantial amount of my entertainment came from the one magazine I read the most. I was devoted. I would eagerly wait for the next issue to continue the journey with the characters whom I connected with and were part of my unending imagination. The next day at school I would sit on the steps by the library and share thoughts of the comic sequence with my friends. We were all devoted. We would then play make believe games and fight over characters. I would go home and continue reading through the pages, and then over dinner, I would tease my siblings with spoilers. This journey continued into my adolescence and early adulthood- the library steps and pretend games were gone by then. They were carefree times of pure joy, where the subtle scent of the thin paper print of the Mickey comics would satiate my enthusiasm. With this piece, I bare my inner child through a glimpse of the simple treasures I cherished.
